Neil enlisted in the US Army in 2001 after graduating from high school. As a paratrooper and radio operator, he served with distinction in both Afghanistan and Iraq. He reached the rank of Sergeant before leaving military service in 2006. After the Army, Neil graduated from The College of William & Mary and then the University of Maine School of Law in 2014. During his legal education, he committed himself to assisting those living with disabilities through his work at the Maine Disability Rights Center, Pine Tree Legal Assistance, and the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic.
Neil was so interested in veterans law that during law school he studied veterans law and took the special examination required to allow people who have not yet been admitted to the bar as a lawyer to represent veterans at hearings. As a result of his hard work, Neil was able to represent his first veteran while he was still in law school.
Following his graduation Neil was admitted to the Maine bar in the fall of 2014 and has practiced full time with Jackson & MacNichol’s veterans law department since that time. He travels regularly throughout the country representing veterans at their hearings. He also currently serves as the Chairperson of the Veterans Law Section of the Maine State Bar Association and stays active in the veterans community through his memberships in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. During his free time he enjoys reading, playing guitar, and walking with his dog, Charlie, at the beach.
