Joan “Joanie” Peterson

Joan “Joanie” Peterson was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 2008. Prior to attending Law School, Ms. Peterson served as a Nurse Corp Officer in the United States Air Force. She was commissioned in 1985 and served as a flight nurse accruing hours in C-130, C 141, and C-9 Aerovac aircraft until her unit, the 36 AEF, was disbanded in 1993. Ms. Peterson then served as an Air Force Reservist to the 442nd Medical Group at Whiteman Air Force Base. Ms. Peterson remained as a member of the 442nd Medical Group through 2011, when she transferred to the Missouri Air National Guard to become a Wing Group Commander. While serving as a Reservist, Ms. Peterson had a very successful civilian career. She practiced family/probate law, became Director of Risk Management and Legal/Regulatory Compliance for two Kansas City area hospitals, and ultimately became the Executive Chief Nursing Officer. Colonel Peterson retired in 2015 from the Air Force after 30 years of service, and is very happy to have this role to utilize all her passions and talents for Veterans with disabilities.
