He served a combined total of 37 years; 22 on active duty, and 16 in the Army National Guard as an ICU nurse in a Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit in Greenville, North Carolina. Retired from active duty at the rank of Major, he fulfilled his desire to continue to help serve veterans by completing law school, passing the Bar exam, and obtaining admission to the Maine Bar.

His experience in the Air Force working with VA providers and patients as well as his own experience in service and with the VA provides him with a unique firsthand experience with the challenges that veterans faced on active duty and with the VA after discharge. Deployed to Iraq twice, first as an ICU Nurse and then as the ICU Flight commander in the Air Force Theater Hospital in Balad, Iraq, he has witnessed soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines receive care for the wounds suffered in combat and those who paid the ultimate price with their lives. Paul is a life member of various veterans’ organizations and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. He devotes his free time to his three dogs and helping law students navigate law school. He enjoys traveling with his wife to see their grandchildren. He hopes to someday complete his certification as a private Pilot, and is considering enrollment to earn an L.L.M.
