Education: Ali obtained his initial legal education in Iraq. Ali attended the University of Maine School of Law where he earned a Master of Laws degree (LL.M.), graduating cum laude, in 2013.  In addition Ali also holds a J.D. degree from the University of Maine School of Law.

Ali is a naturalized US citizen and a native of Iraq where he earned his Bachelor of Laws degree. Ali is the first Iraqi-American to be admitted into the State of Maine’s Bar.

In Iraq he served with the U.S. Army as a combat linguist and cultural liaison in Iraq’s battle zones.

While working on his Juris Doctorate degree, Ali received the International Law Student Award, and was nominated by the Dean for the School’s annual Student Impact Summit to celebrate the significant and positive impact of his research on communities inside and outside of Maine.

During law school, he practiced law as a student attorney with the Kennebec County District Attorney’s office in Augusta, Maine. There, he prosecuted cases and wrote appellate briefs to be submitted to the Supreme Judicial Court of Maine.  In addition, while at law school he practiced immigration law at the school’s Human Rights Clinic where he helped juvenile immigrants and asylum seekers attain legal status in the U.S.

Ali also served as the interim regulatory compliance administrator for the University of Southern Maine where he acted as an independent reviewer to ensure the university’s compliance with federal and state’s regulatory mandates in the area of academic research.
